Bulk Create Google Workspace Groups Aliases with GW Manager

Bulk Create Group Aliases with GW manager

 Welcome to GW Manager.

In this video, I will show you how to create group aliases in Google Workspace with GW Manager.

For this, I will go to my Google sheet, click on extensions, and I should see GW Manager here.

If you need help with the installation, please visit our GW Manager  Installation guide here.

I'll click on launch, to launch the GW manager in the sidebar.

Install and Launch GW Manager - google sheets addon for google workspace admins.

Once it is launched, I will first need to insert the sheet, where I can provide information on which Google Workspace group aliases that I want to create.

And for that, I have two choices, under this feature, either I can go to manage utilities and click on insert all sheets, which will insert all the sheets at once in my Google sheet, so that I can deal with any of these functions.

For now, I'll go to manage group aliases, and select "Create group aliases ".

GW Manager recognizes that we don't have a "create group aliases" sheet inserted yet, so it is asking us to insert that sheet.

We will click on Execute.

Insert Create Group Aliases sheet in GW Manager

GW manager has inserted "*create group aliases*" sheet and took us there automatically.

As shown with an asterisk, it needs a group email address, and the group alias email.

I've already copied that information, so I'll paste it here.

I'm providing my group email addresses, and the aliases that I want to create for those groups.

In case if you want to create more than one email alias for a given group, you can mention that in separate rows.

For instance, here, I'm creating an operations department, and then I'm also creating operations as ops at my domain.

Enter details for group aliases to be created

In case you need to export your group email addresses, you can also go to manage groups and use export groups, which will give you  all the email addresses of groups in your domain.

For now, I'll go back to group aliases. I'm creating group aliases.

I will select "run create group aliases", and before I click on execute.

Let me show these groups in my Google Workspace Admin console. So these are my groups. I'll do a quick reload here, and then I'll select one of them, which is operations.

When I go to this, and click on group information, I don't see any aliases here, except the default one that is created by Google.

So I'll go back to my sheet and click on Execute.

Click "Execute" in GW Manager to initiate Group Aliases creation

At this time, GW Manager will start creating aliases for these groups based on the information that you provided, and within a few seconds, it'll write back the results.

It says all the group aliases were created.

GW Manager confirms successful Group Aliases creation

Now we'll go back to Google Workspace Admin Console and  do a quick reload to confirm that.

And here are the aliases that we asked GW Manager to create.

These aliases are now created for all the groups based on the information that we provided in our Google sheet.

This is how you can quickly create multiple group aliases in Google Workspace with GW Manager.
